Cubism is an abstract art movement developed by Picasso and Braque at the beginning of the 20th century. The subject(s) are rendered from multiple perspectives. Sometimes the elements of the compositon may be reduced to basic geometric shapes(analytical), or rendered in a more recognizable form(Synthetic). Shading is random and executed in such a way as to accentuate the 2 dimensional nature of the media. With regards to pottery, I have developed an asthetic that I call "Protomorphic Cubism". I use a dry throwing technique to force angles into the clay body, combining the protomorphs: cylinder, cone, and sphere into a more complex final composition.
